Two members representing the Julius Dugger-John Carter Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution planted yellow rose bushes in front of the Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library and the Carter County Election Commission in honor of this year’s 100th anniversary of Tennessee’s pivotal role in the passage of the 19th Amendment.
Yellow roses became the symbol of the pro-suffrage faction in the months before Tennessee became the Perfect 36th and final state needed to ratify the 19th Amendment. The DAR is proud to perpetuate the memory of the women and men who fought for suffrage.
