Jackson State Community College gets new president

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Board of Regents has appointed a new president of Jackson State Community College.
The board that oversees Tennessee’s community colleges and applied technology colleges said in a news release Tuesday that George J. Pimentel will begin serving as president of Jackson State starting July 1.
Pimentel succeeds Allana Hamilton, who has moved on to become the College System of Tennessee’s vice chancellor of academic affairs.
Pimentel has been vice president of academic affairs at Volunteer State Community College since 2014 and has 26 years of teaching and academic administrative experience, the board said. He is a U.S. Army veteran and a former history professor.
Jackson State served 14 West Tennessee counties from its main campus in Jackson and three branches in Humboldt, Lexington and Savannah. The college enrolls nearly 5,000 credit students, including more than 1,200 dual-enrolled high school students, the board said.
