L.J. Heaton, 85, Hampton, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Walnut Mountain, he was a son of the late Roma and Ida Banner Heaton.
L.J. was a 1956 graduate of Hampton High School. After graduation he served in the United States Army. He was retired as a Millwright at North American Rayon Corporation.
L.J. was president of the Walnut Mountain Cemetery Association and a member of Centerview Church of Christ. He loved to work in his garden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Banner, and two brothers, Roma Heaton Jr. and Clyde Heaton.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Guy Heaton; three children, Sheila (Curtis) Morton and Michelle Ford, all of Hampton, and Michael (Donna) Heaton, Roan Mountain; four grandchildren, Eric Heaton, Mitchell Morton, Seth Heaton and Mason Ford; three great-grandchildren, Adalaiah, Spencer and Riley; a brother, Charles (Dorothy) Heaton, Elizabethton; two sisters, Shirley Irick, Elizabethton, and Hazel (Gary) Pierce of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the Centerview Church of Christ with Mr. David Irick and Mr. Tony Hoss, ministers, officiating. Interment will follow in the Walnut Mountain Cemetery. Singing will be by the Congregation. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, will be Eric Heaton, Mitchell Morton, Seth Heaton, Mason Ford, Scott Heaton and Jeff Heaton. Honorary pallbearers will be Spencer Heaton, Mike Hawkins, Floyd Campbell, James Matherly, John D. Snyder, Dale McKinney, Buck Marlow and the men of Centerview Church of Christ. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to caretakers, Kathy Johnson and the staff of Amedisys Hospice. The family will receive friends from noon until the service hour at 1 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence.
