Bodie DeWayne Gwaltney, 47, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020, surrounded by his family, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Bodie was born in Carter County to the late Jack and Linda Sue Carrier Gwaltney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his special dog, “Chewy.”
Bodie was a millwright for Powerserve and was a member of Heartland Fellowship Church of Elizabethton. He loved his family, loved having fun and making people laugh, loved eating, hunting and fishing and just being outdoors.
Those left to cherish his memories include his daughter, Anastasia Sue Gwaltney of Elizabethton; two sisters, Jackie Perry and Chrissy Gwaltney, both of Elizabethton; and a brother, Justin Williams, also of Elizabethton. Three nephews, six nieces, four great-nephews and four-great nieces also survive.
A service to celebrate Bodie’s life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, July 6, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Rusty Verran and Pastor Marvin Slagle officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, in the Blevins Cemetery in the Stoney Creek Community of Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Frankie Fletcher, Travis “Birdie” Carrier, Christopher Perry, Josh Baggett, Maverick Estep and Todd Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Williams, Jamon Baggett, Waymon Carrier, Ernie Campbell, Troy Baggett, Naaman “Pine Knot” Buckles, the nurses and staff of the 6300 floor at Johnson City Medical Center, the nurses and staff of the ICU Unit at Sycamore Shoals Hospital and his good friend, “Snake.” Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Magnolia Ridge, 900 Buffalo Street, Johnson City, TN 37604 or by visiting their website at frontierhealthfoundation.org.
