Harry Lee Smith Jr., 80, Elizabethton, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 2, 2020, in Murfreesboro, Tenn., after an extended illness.
Harry was born in Elizabethton to the late Harry Smith Sr. and Lorena Frazier Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Tonya Ann Smith.
Harry was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. He served in the United States Navy for four years. He held many different jobs over the years, along with wallpaper hanging and painting with his dad.
Harry enjoyed SEC football, bicycle racing, sailing, and listening to music, especially music played by his son and grandson. He was of the Christian faith.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Rena Smith-Askew, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Harry Smith III and wife Heather Daily Smith, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Heather Smith and Jimmy Hayes, Elizabethton, Tenn.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lyndell Hyder Snyder and Jim Snyder and Joan Dolan Deaton and Gene Deaton, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; grandchildren, Hannah Askew and Dylan Smith, both of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Riley Walters, Brentwood, Tenn.; along with several special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. In the meantime, the family requests that those wishing to honor Harry’s memory donate to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
