United Way of East TN Highlands donated $2,500 to the Washington County School System from the COVID-19 Response Funds. United Way of EAST TN Highlands is trying to mitigate the negative effects the pandemic is having on our region by supporting programs that are focused on health, education, and financial stability. The Washington County School System plans to use this money to help the students and teachers start the school year in a digital setting. It will provide extra funding for the schools to purchase extra chrome books, laptops, and Wi-Fi service for students and teachers to connect with each other online for the first few weeks of school.
“We know that schools are having to make tough decisions with limited resources. We want to make sure that the kids, teachers and staff are safe as they return to school. Whether the kids are in the physical school building or learning from home, we want them to have the support they need to start this school year on a positive note,” said Kristan Spear, President and CEO of United Way of East TN Highlands.
