Clifton Leon “Boney” McFarland, 74, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020.
Leon was born in Jefferson City to the late Leroy and Emma (Cunningham) McFarland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Richmond) McFarland; four brothers, Leroy McFarland Jr., James “Billy” McFarland and Franklin “Mickey” McFarland; and one sister, Dallas McFarland.
Mr. McFarland retired from North American Rayon. He was a member of Phillippi Missionary Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He also served as Superintendent of Sunday School.
Survivors include four sisters, Mollie Bradley, Midway, Ky., Marilyn Hendrick, Cleveland, Ohio, Carolyn Baker, Mountain City, Tenn., and Martha Brooks and husband Mac Arthur, Russellville, Tenn.; a son, Robert McFarland, Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Sandy Gordon and husband Rasco, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Taylor Layne McFarland, Manassas, Va., Jordan McFarland, Clinton, Tenn., and Gabriel, Jasen and Caitlin Gordon, all of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and three great-grandchildren, Zayden Josiah, Cameron and Aubrianna. Several nieces and nephews survive.
A graveside service to honor the life of Clifton Leon McFarland will be conducted at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton, on Saturday, August 8, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Holifield officiating. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Friends may also visit the home of his sister-in-law, Pauline Neeley, 127 Jackson Avenue, Elizabethton, at other times. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carter County is mandating that all citizens who live in or visit Carter County wear masks in public. In keeping in accordance with this mandate, all visitors to the visitation / funeral service are required to wear a mask / and or facial covering.
