Jean Shell, age 81, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, from her residence.  Jean was born in Carter County to the late Bill and Lola Vance Johnson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Shell. 

 Jean was a good, hard working, loving, caring woman that would do anything for anyone.  Once you knew Jean, you would always remember her!  She was a devout Baptist and was very devoted to the Lord.  Jean had worked for the United States Forestry Service for over 20 years in Carter County and had also worked as a secretary for R.W. Sharp in Cleveland, Ohio.  She was also a Union Stork for General Motors.  Jean enjoyed knitting, quilting, coloring, taking care of her family and friends, interacting with people, planning “get togethers” and picnics, working outdoors, gardening and watching/ making things grow.

 Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her two sons, Timothy Shell and Roger (Bill) Shell, both of Roan Mountain; a stepson, George Shell and wife Terriann; a stepdaughter, Angie Boone; two brothers, Sonny Johnson and wife Gail, of Roan Mountain and Keith Johnson and wife Sandy, of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Angela Thorn, Michael Shell, Nicki Shell, Sheri Shell, Robert Leeper, Dylan Shell, Blake Shell, Dalton Shell, Jacob Shell and  Mattie Buchanan;  great-grandchildren, Mariah Thorn, Ryan Thorne, Marisa Thorne, Zack Thorne, Sophie Thorne, Andria Moss, Alisaty Shell and Alex Shell. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

 A graveside service to celebrate Jean’s life will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2020, in the Shell Cemetery on Hampton Creek in Roan Mountain with Pastor Steve Guinn officiating.  Active pallbearers will be Richard Hughes, Chad Morgan, Eddie Miller, Matt Thorn and Demp Shell.  Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:50 PM on Saturday.

 There will be a private family viewing held Friday, September 4, 2020, at 6:00 PM at the Roan Mountain Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. This viewing is open for all family of Jean Shell.

 The family would like to thank Gail Johnson, Ruby Matheson and Richard Hughes for their love, care and phone calls made to Jean.

 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carter County is mandating that all citizens who live in or visit wear masks in public.  In keeping in accordance with this mandate, all visitors to the graveside service are required to wear a mask or facial covering.  Also, social distancing recommendations must be observed.
