DELANO (AP) — Tree and shrub seedlings are now available for purchase through the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s division of forestry, the department announced Wednesday.
The East Tennessee Nursery in Delano is accepting orders until April 30 for seedlings that can help landowners reforest timberland, control erosion and enhance the environment for wildlife, according to the department.
Several programs exist to help landowners obtain free seedlings. Trees for Tennessee aims to increase pine regeneration on recently harvested or fallow fields. Play. Plant. Preserve. works to ensure that the hardwood used for making drumsticks and mallets in Tennessee is sustainable. The Duck and Elk River Watershed Buffer Initiative works to enhance riparian zone and wetland buffers for wildlife.
Cost-share opportunities are also available through programs like the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program.
