Cyclones quelled by Lady Rebels… South doesn’t back down in 3-0 sweep of ‘Betsy

The South Lady Rebel volleyball team has been one of the most outstanding teams around in the past several years with many trips to the sectional and state tournaments while returning with a few state championships under the belt.
This year is a special year for the Lady Rebels as it will the finale of a long run as the Sullivan South Lady Rebels with South, Central, and North slated to combine into a new high school next year.
On Tuesday, the Lady Rebels faced another up and coming team in the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones in Kingsport with something having to give as both teams continue to battle for seeding in the tournament at the end of the 2020 season.
Taking the battle to the court, the Lady Rebels settled every uprising the Lady Cyclones had on the night to prevail in taking the match by a 3-0 score winning set one 25-15, taking set two 25-20 and then finishing off the match 25-16 to take the Three Rivers Conference contest.
Brittany Kitchens led the charge defensively for the Lady Cyclones ending the match with a total of 16 digs on the night. Lady Cyclone Grace Martin followed with 13 digs while Cheyenne Poiroux added 12.
Other Lady Cyclones recording defensive digs in the match included Mattie Davis (6), Kallista DePrimo (3), Makaiah Williams (3) and Jayci Bowers (3).
Davis was stout at the net where she recorded a match-high six kills for ‘Betsy. DePrimo and Kitchens added five kills as well for the Lady Cyclones.
The loss dropped the Lady Cyclones season mark to 5-8 on the year.
Things don’t get any easier for Elizabethton as the Lady Cyclones played Central on Wednesday night and then will travel to Sevierville as they will be participating in the Rocky Top Classic over the weekend.
