Vera Diana Salyer West, 73, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Derby, Va., she was a daughter of the late Rev. Homer C. and Iona Eads Salyer.
Vera was a graduate of Unaka High School. She previously was employed at First Tennessee Human Resource Agency, Citizens and Carter County Bank. She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church and the Ladies Group Studies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Peters, and two brothers, Carlos and Roy Salyer.
Survivors include her children, Angela (Jeff) Guinn and Eric (Hope) West; her grandchildren, Charles (Rachel) Peters, Jeff Peters, Natasha Peters, Whitney Rasnick, Joshua Rasnick, Molly Guinn and Morgan Guinn; her great-grandchildren, Serenity Dugger, Isabella Peters, Saven Peters, Bailey Peters and Ella Peters; her sisters, Brenda (Jack) Howell, Janice Estep and LaDonnia (Jerry) Proffitt; her brother, Desler Salyer; a sister-in-law, Joyce Salyer; a special friend, Doris Carrier; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mark Grubb officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 17, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, will be Charles Peters, Jeff Guinn, Jeff Peters, Joshua Rasnick, Jerry Proffitt and Jamin Buckles. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the doctors and staff of the ICU of Sycamore Shoals Hospital and Dr. William Garrett. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
