HAPPY VALLEY – After starting the season off with a victory, the Happy Valley Warriors then hit a rough patch, losing their next two games on the season.
The Warriors, who come into this week with a 1-2 record, are looking to get back on track Friday night when they host Cosby on Warrior Hill.
Last Friday, Happy Valley lost a tough game at home against a talented Unicoi County team 31-14, coming just a week after traveling to Hampton where they were shut out by the Bulldogs 28-0.
Happy Valley head coach Jason Jarrett spoke about his team’s recent struggles saying, “Overall, the last two weeks have been a huge disappointment in terms of our expectations here at HV.
“We have been way too inconsistent. Last week we produced a 159-yard rusher in Matthew Bahn which is great, but we had too many negative plays.
“Also, defensively, we held Unicoi County to less than 30 yards rushing but gave up the most passing yardage we have in a very long time.”
After the loss at home last week, Jarrett says that winning at home is huge and that his team needs to put a show on for the home crowd to keep things in a positive direction.
“Anytime you play at home it is important to use home-field advantage in your favor. We were not happy with our intensity last week, so we are looking forward to getting back on the field to redeem ourselves and put a product on the field our community can be proud of and take great pride in.”
The Warriors have many weapons that can be utilized on the field to gain momentum, and for Happy Valley to beat Cosby Friday night, they are going to need to use those weapons to their advantage.
Jarrett said, “Offensively, Matthew Bahn has been a key weapon for us, along with Andrew Little, Landon Babb, and Eli Ayers led by Peyton Primeau upfront.
“Defensively, Cayden Campbell, Mason Hicks, Logan Groom, and Timmy Mounts played well last week. We’re expecting a big game out of all of these guys because I know they want to bounce back just as bad as I do.”
Kickoff between the Happy Valley Warriors and the Cosby Eagles will take place at 7:30 p.m on Warrior Hill at Happy Valley High School.
