David Michael Matherly, 55, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of Clarence R. Matherly and Brenda Rainbolt Penix and step-father, Thomas Penix.
David was employed at North American Rayon Corporation for several years. He was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church.
Survivors include three children, TSgt. Savannah Shea (Jeffrey) Schuman, Tampa, Fla., Dana Lee Matherly of West Virginia, and Michael William Matherly, Butler; three grandchildren, Kaleb Powell, Emma Schuman and Landon Matherly; a sister, Becky Proffitt; two brothers, Jeff Matherly and James Matherly; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
The graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 10, in the Hamby Cemetery, Whaleytown Road, Butler, with Pastor Dennis Wilson and Pastor Nick Bradshaw officiating. Music will be provided by Joel Crisp. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, will be William Matherly, Mason Yates, Cody Griffin, David Collins, Brian Higgs, Nate Collins and Ben Paris. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 2:50 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help with the expenses.
