Connie “Darlene” Sullivan, 64, of Elizabethton, Tenn., was called home to join her family with the Lord on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, from Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Darlene was born in Pinehurst, N.C., to the late Johnny and Florence Caddell McNeill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Wayne McNeill and Raymond Gerald McNeill, and a sister, Brenda Ann Conner.
Darlene was a wonderful wife and mother whose life was her family. At a young age, Darlene was one of the first women to race in dirt track racing in Germany. She was a woman in charge, very strong and independent. Darlene was of the Pentecostal faith and had some business ventures in Elizabethton over the past 20 years. She liked trying new things, enjoyed her collectibles, traveling and her family. Most of all she loved her family, home, her business ventures and her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish Darlene’s precious memories include her loving husband of 24 years, Edward Sullivan; three sons, Jason Barbour and wife Daphne, Timothy Barbour and wife Elaina and Michael Sullivan; one sister, Nancy Sada; and a brother, Jim McNeill and wife Sherry. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
An open visitation will be conducted from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday, November 21, in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Chris McCoury officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Sunday. The family would like to thank all the family and friends who have reached out to help during this difficult time.
