The intensity had been building leading up to the first game of the season for the TA Dugger JV Jr. Cyclones and when the whistle blew for the tipoff of the contest between TAD and KACHEA, it was Katie bar the door as the Jr. Cyclones stormed out to a 41-14 halftime advantage and never looked back in taking an easy 59-24 victory.
Jumping out 18-7 in the first period, TAD set the tempo for the evening behind six points each from Jackson Buckles and Justin Whitehead. Colby Blevins also added four points to set the foundation for the rest of the contest.
Andrew Joyner scored four of the Wildcats seven points in the opening six minutes.
TAD took advantage of an offensive explosion from Whitehead in the second stanza as Whitehead was zeroed into the basket connecting for 14 points to help extend the lead to 27 points by the half.
Buckles added four in the quarter to run his tally to 10 for the first 12 minutes of play. Isaiah Adams tallied three points in the quarter.
The Jr. Cyclones came out of the locker room and hit a cold patch offensively as the third period saw the home team scoring only four points as Whitehead and Buckles recorded a field goal apiece.
KACHEA, however, only managed to shave four points off the lead scoring eight in the quarter.
Leading 45-22 heading into the final six minutes of action, TAD was able to play loose as they finally found their scoring touch once again to close out the game by tacking 14 points onto the scoreboard in the final quarter.
Gabe McDougal scored six of the 14 points while Bailey Cannon added four from underneath the basket. Blevins and Jabriel Fain contributed two points apiece as well toward the quarter’s total.
Whitehead was the game-high scorer for the Jr. Cyclones with 22 points. Buckles was in double figures with 12. Blevins. Cannon and McDougal closed out with six points.
Adams finished with five points and Fain’s two points accounted for the final points of the 59 scored by TAD.
Joyner led KACHEA with nine points in the game.
