Reverend William H. “Bill” Davis, 73, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was the son of the late Jack A. Davis and Virgie Helen Trivette Davis.
Bill was a man whose heart longed to know God more with every passing day and it showed by the way he lived his life. He loved his wife Jackie, his son Britton and his daughters Kim, Tena, and Alicia and his whole family in the same way that Christ loved the church, whole heartedly and selflessly. He was the most kind and gentle man and he was also strong, patient and steady, all while having the best sense of humor! He worked hard and provided well. Much like Jesus’s trade in carpentry, he designed and built three of the houses his family has lived in, each one built with love and care. He also had a heart for people and enjoyed teaching. Whether in the classroom at Happy Valley High School, where he was a welding and metal shop teacher for 35 years, or in the sanctuary at Biltmore Baptist Church on Monday mornings with the Recovery Soldiers Ministries, he loved sharing with others from all that God had shown him in life. He especially loved pastoring Biltmore Baptist Church for the past 14 years, preaching, teaching and having conversation with anyone and everyone God put in his path. He was recognized by Reverend Benson M. Olipas for his commitment to the cause of Christ in reaching the Philippines for the sake of the Gospel and encouraging Filipino Pastors. He served as the interim minister at Big Springs Baptist Church and Zion Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James A. Davis, and his niece, Shauna Hutton.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Jackie F. Davis; son, Britton Anthony Davis of Johnson City, Tenn.; daughters, Kimberly Renee Davis of Jonesborough, Tenn., Tena Michelle Davis of Rhode Island, and Alicia Melinda Davis of Holly Springs, Ga.; brothers, Reverend Edward Davis (Shirley) of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Jeff Davis (Kim) of Elizabethton, Tenn.; sister, Linda Hutton Collins (Ben) of Gray, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be an open visitation Monday, November 23, from noon until 4 p.m. at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, for those who would like to sign the guest book and pay their respects.
A service to honor the life of Reverend William H. “Bill” Davis will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, at Biltmore Baptist Church with Reverend Charlie Trivette, Mr. Lindsay Rash and Reverend Josh Scalf officiating. Music will be provided by Recovery Soldiers Ministries and Mrs. Tammy Roark serving as pianist. Committal and internment will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Jim Nave officiating. Music will be provided by Ms. Alicia Davis. Active pallbearers will be his family and church family. Honorary pallbearers will be the pastors of Watauga Baptist Association. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Biltmore Baptist Church, 1181 Bristol Hwy., Elizabethton, TN 37643 or Recovery Soldiers Ministries, 1180 Bristol Hwy., Elizabethton, TN 37643.
