During the recent swearing-in ceremony for newly elected and re-elected officials, the Elizabethton City Council made a special contribution to honor the life and memory of former East Side Elementary principal Dr. Josh Wandell.
The contribution was made to Dr. Wandell’s wife, Tabitha, and will go to a scholarship that Mrs. Wandell announced recently at an Elizabethton City School Board meeting.
The Faith Over Fear Scholarship was kicked off with a $20,000 commitment from Wandell’s family which will secure it for the next 20 years with $500 contributions being accepted to extend it beyond that time frame.
This scholarship will provide $1,000 at graduation to a worthy Elizabethton High School senior which will help carry on Dr. Wandell’s legacy for years to come through the scholarship.
Dr. Wandell impacted lives in so many facets of life.
As a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandson, uncle, teacher, coach, administrator, athlete, speaker, friend, servant, faithful believer, and leader in the educational community, Dr. Wandell’s legacy continues to shine in the many lives he has touched while living his heroic battle against ALS and his commitment to truly live Faith OVER Fear.
With the announcement of the scholarship, the Wandell family wanted to extend their gratitude to their community for the love and support they have received since Dr. Wandell’s diagnosis in 2013.
Though their hearts ache, the Wandells are thankful that they can continue Dr. Wandell’s legacy of faith, hard work, and education in students’ lives for many years to come.
For those interested in contributing to the Josh Wandell Faith Over Fear Scholarship and honor his life while paying it forward to a deserving student in the future, please contact Mrs. Wandell at tabitha.wandell@ecschools.net for additional information concerning contributions.
She left the following as a reminder of the faith her husband had in his battle:
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you where you go.”
