Mary Ellen Shoup Boyd, 95, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, from her residence. Mary Ellen was born in Canton, Ohio to the late William Blee Shoup and Mary Esther Black Shoup. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edwin Boyd; her brother, Willis Robert Shoup; and her sister, Eleanor Frances Shoup Reed.
Mary Ellen had worked as a preschool teacher at First Christian Church Preschool, Pompano Beach, Fla. She was a loyal and faithful member of Borderview Christian Church and enjoyed painting, music, reading, knitting, bird watching and most of all, spending time with her beloved family.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her daughters, Nancy Villalba and husband Juan of Watauga, Bonnie Frick and husband Bob of Johnson City and Becky Boyd, also of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Kristen Boyd, Juan Villalba III and wife Bryanne and Elena Villalba; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Boyd and Evan Boyd.
A service to celebrate Mary Ellen’s life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, December 14, at Borderview Christian Church with Mr. Scott Fisher officiating and her grandson, Juan Villalba III, providing a eulogy. The visitation will be conducted at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Amedysis Hospice for the excellent care given to Mary Ellen. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Borderview Christian Church, 1338 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, TN 37643 in memory of Mary Ellen.
