The Elizabethton Cyclones got an early Christmas present prior to the Christmas holiday as Coach Lucas Honeycutt and his team won all three of their games in the Heritage Christmas tournament to claimed the championship hardware for their three-day effort in the tournament.

Behind a 23-point effort from tourney MVP Jake Roberts, the Cyclones defeated Maryville Christian to take a 66-38 victory in the tournament’s final contest.

In winning the tournament, the Cyclones held all three opponents under 40 points and took a commanding 27-9 lead after the first period against Maryville Christian on a William Willocks three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Cyclones went up 16-1 and never looked back as the closest Christian got was 37-23.

Elizabethton led 40-19 at the halftime break behind Roberts 15 first-half points and Brayden Phillips 11 points. Willocks added seven points.

Along with Roberts’ MVP performance, Phillips, Willocks, and Nicholas WIlson were also named to the All-Tourney team.

The second half was much like the first as Roberts and Wilson played string music to the tune of eight points apiece to make sure the championship came back home to Elizabethton.

Phillips (13), Wilson (12), and Willocks (11) all reached double figures in the contest to join Roberts.

Ryan English had 10 points to pace Maryville Christian in the contest while Gus Westerfield added six points in the loss.

Elizabethton ran their overall season record to 8-2 with the win.
