Donald Douglas Hazelwood, 73, Hampton, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Don Calvin and Ruth Edna Oaks Hazelwood.
Don served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a 1965 graduate of Hampton High School and East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education with a Minor in History. Don was a school teacher and a Bi-Vocational Pastor. He taught at Harold McCormick for several years and in Virginia at Southwest Virginia Mental Health Institute.
He was a member of Eternal Life Baptist Church, Hampton. He also had been a Pastor at Deer Valley Baptist Church in Chilhowie, Va., and served as Outreach Minister at Seven Mile Ford, Va. He also pastored at Adkins Baptist Church, Adkins, Va.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Grindstaff Hazelwood; one daughter, Jennifer Marie Hazelwood; two granddaughters, Katie Kirk and fiancé Dustin Haulsey and Kelsey Liberto and husband Paxton Liberto; three great-grandchildren, Maizie Haulsey and Kyler and Denver Liberto; and one sister, Connie Davis and husband Dalton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 2, in the Samuel Earl Morefield & Family Cemetery, 4305 Little Dry Run Road, Butler, Tenn., with the Rev. Chuck Morefield and the Rev. Richard Taylor officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, will be Andrew Davis, Scott Davis, Jason Wolfe, Tyler Morefield, Robert Campbell and Matt Croy. Military Honors will be provided by the Johnson County Honor Guard. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dawnella Campbell, Amanda Bowers, Jessica Campbell, Emily Croy, Andrea Davis Buck, Bob and Robert Fletcher, and the staff of CCU and PCU of Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
