Bobby Richard Smith, 90, Hampton, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Hillview Health Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late James and Vergie Waycaster Smith.
Bobby was a graduate of Hampton High School. Prior to his illness he worked in ornamental concrete. He was a member of Roan Street Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Carole Shelburne Smith, and a sister, Carol Ann James.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Todd and Pamela Beth Smith, Hampton; two grandchildren, Amber Smith Kent and husband Johnathon and Megan Smith; one great-grandson, Eli Smith; two sisters, Debby Range and husband Johnny and Phyllis Arnold and husband R.V.; two brothers, Bud Smith and wife Nancy and Jimmy Smith and wife Christine; several nieces and nephews; and his nursing home family.
The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Ken Bewley officiating. Honorary minister will be Rev. J.W. Norris. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, will be Johnny Range, Jonathan Range, Troy Whitehead, Richard Campbell, Ernie Campbell and R.V. Arnold. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Hillview Health Center for the excellent care Bobby received during his stay there. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home from noon until 5 p.m. Wednesday or Thursday morning until 11:30 a.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
