HAPPY VALLEY – It was an exciting evening in Carter County on Tuesday as the Happy Valley Warriors were back on the hardwood at home taking on the Unicoi County Blue Devils in both boys and girls action.

The girls would kick things off, and after the Lady Warriors went out in front early, the Lady Devils fought right back. Things would continue to be tightly contested throughout the first quarter before Happy Valley surged to end the second period.

Going into the break, it was the Lady Warriors on top by a score of 21-13.

And despite Unicoi County being able to come back in the second half and bring the score to within four points, the Lady Warriors held on and claimed victory in the first game, going on to win by a score of 42-35.

En route to the victory, the Lady Warriors were led by Kadie Bailey who scored a team-high 11 points, followed by Marcida Moore who put up nine points. Gabby Wood and Olivia Absher both dropped eight points in the contest.

The boys’ contest saw the Blue Devils come out of the gate blazing hot, as they started the game by going on a 12-1 run before things eventually slow down.

That is until midway through the second quarter when the Blue Devils began to find the bottom of the basket yet again. It would be their momentum that carried Unicoi into the halftime break up big over the Warriors by a score of 32-14.

The Warriors began to storm back into this one in the early stages of the second half, but soon after, the Blue Devils launched an array of shots from behind the arc to regain control yet again.

And while Happy Valley was able to make things interesting in the late stages, it wouldn’t be enough as the Blue Devils hung on for the road win by a score of 67-56.

In the effort, the Warriors were led by Blake Young who scored 20 points followed by Andrew Clawson who scored 11, and Andrew Little who put up 10 points in the contest.
