There’s just a few days left in January….which means February is at our doorstep, and if you have not paid your county property taxes, time is running out.
The 2020 Carter County property taxes will become delinquent March 1. Interest fees will be added on March 1.
A notice from the Carter County Trustee’s Office noted that in order to avoid interest fees, payment of taxes must be made before Friday, Feb. 26. If payments are mailed they must be postmarked by March 1. Also, for the convenience of the public a drop box is located outside the Trustee’s office for payment.
All prior taxes must be paid before 2020 taxes can be accepted.
All unaided 2019 property taxes will be certified into Chancery County on April 1, where additional interest as well as court costs will be added.
Also, the Trustee’s Office reminds Hampton and Roan Mountain residents that a kiosk is now located at the Redi-Mart Supermarket at 5110 US-19E, Hampton. Credit or debit cards can be used at the kiosk with the 2.75 percent fee for each transaction.
The Trustee’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, for the observance of President’s Day.
