Wesley Murray of Northeast Community Credit Union is pictured virtually presenting this month’s Helping Teachers Teach grant to winner Amy Banner, a Spanish teacher at Hampton High School. Banner plans to use the $300 grant to purchase a set of Spanish language novels to help promote free voluntary reading or recreational reading among her students. The novels are written with Spanish language learners in mind to help them acquire and retain more of the language they are learning. Banner said the project will help her provide level appropriate, high interest readers for her students and help them to exponentially grow their Spanish vocabulary. Helping Teachers Teach grants are open to teachers within Carter, Johnson, Washington, Unicoi, and Sullivan counties who are members of Northeast Community Credit Union.
