KINGSPORT – With the regular-season coming to a close, the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones still had a little unfinished business went they traveled to Kingsport to tangle with the Sullivan South Lady Rebels in one of the final games to be played inside South’s gymnasium.

The trip was a successful one for the Lady Cyclones as they opened up a large barrage of treys finishing with nine on the night and closed out the game down the stretch at the charity stripe for a 64-51 conference win over the Lady Rebels.

Elizabethton opened the contest by taking a 10-4 lead before ballooning that edge to 33-18 at the break.

Sharp-shooting guard Lina Lyon was all over the rim in the first 16 minutes as she knocked down 14 of her game-high 20 in the half to help push the Lady Cyclones out front. Lyon had four of her five treys in the half.

Post Morgan Headrick lent a hand in building the advantage as the senior dropped 10 points in the half as well. Senior guard Torrie Roberts also played a contributing factor with five including a trey of her own.

Allie Jordan kept the Lady Rebels in the contest by scoring 10 points in the opening half while Chloe Nelson added eight points for South.

Even though the Lady Rebels weren’t able to shave much off the lead in the third period, it was one of the most competitive quarters of the contest as the Lady Cyclones outscored the home squad 17-15 to take a 50-33 into the final eight minutes of regulation.

The Lady Rebels put together one of their best stanzas of the night in the closing fourth quarter as they managed to outscore the visiting Lady Cyclones 18-14 to close out the game.

Elizabethton visited the foul line 14 times in the final quarter where they converted on 10 of those attempts.

The Lady Cyclones ran their record to 15-8 overall and 8-3 in the conference to solidify their hold on the number-two seed in the conference. South fell to 9-11 overall and 3-7 in the conference and currently stand as the conference’s six-seed.
