Lady Rangers steam past Lady Bucs in District 1-A play

The Lady Rangers of Unaka knew it was going to take a win to accomplish two things in their basketball season with one being to extend the Lady Rangers season to the second round of District 1-A tourney play and two secure a berth in next week’s region tourney.
Unaka achieved both in their contest with the Lady Bucs of University High by steamrolling past the visitors in convincing fashion, 54-18.
The Lady Rangers matched the Lady Bucs total score in the first quarter along as Coach Kenneth Chambers squad took the early 18-4 lead at the first stop.
Lyndie Ramsey came out smoking hot as the sophomore who recently recorded his 1,000th point blistered the cotton for 13 of the Lady Rangers first-quarter points.
Kiki Forney dropped a trey and Mailey Guy contributed a deuce in the opening stanza.
With the Lady Bucs struggling to find the hoop in the second quarter scoring only one point, the Lady Rangers tallied nine points to push their lead to 27-5 at the break.
Ramsey added five more to her scoring log in the period while Guy picked up an additional four points.
Unaka kept their stellar play going in the third quarter salting the game away by going on a 19-5 run in the stanza.
Ramsey continued to sizzle stinging the nets with 11 in the frame to push her total to 29 in only three quarters of play.
Guy, Forney, Tara Whitehead and Macy Ensor also added a field goal apiece in the frame.
With a 46-10 advantage, the fourth quarter played out in relative ease for the Lady Rangers with Whitehead and Grace Agan dropping in a three-ball apiece and Hannah Yontz added the final two points to close out the scoring.
Guy (8), Whitehead (5), Forney (5), Agan (3), Yontz (2), and Ensor (2) followed Ramsey’s 29-point outburst.
Ryleigh Owen totaled nine of the Lady Bucs 18 all coming from behind the three-point arc.
Unaka advances to take on Cloudland Saturday evening.
