The Elizabethton Police Department would like to remind the community about deceptive phone calls (scams) they receive from individuals who claim to be from the Social Security Administration. The scammers tell the victim their Social Security number has been compromised and their number will be suspended. The victim is then directed to a fake legal department which will attempt to gain the victim’s personal information.

Your Social Security number will never be cancelled, and you should never divulge personal information over the phone if you receive such calls.
