D.W. Reece peacefully went to meet Jesus on March 20, 2021. He was born on August 14, 1934, and was a native of Butler, Tenn.
D.W. was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a retiree from North American Rayon Factory. D.W. loved to spend time with his family and friends, work on his farms and tinker with his cars. He was of the Baptist faith.
D.W. was preceded in death by a daughter, Freda Reece; his parents, William Eart “Red” Reece and Oakie Campbell Reece; and two brothers, Cecil and Richard Reece.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Atwood Reece, Butler; two sons, Brian (Kathy) Reece, Johnson City, and John Reece, Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Constance (Joe) Cole, Elizabethton; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb (Sarrah) Myers, Chattanooga, Kara and Cameron Cole, Elizabethton; several siblings including Bobby Reece, Elwanda (Mitch) Shupe, Martha Lou Vines, Wayne (Linda) Reece, Leonard (Sheila) Reece, Sharie Hicks, Anita Blackwell and Karen Yates; two extra brothers, Terry Proffitt and Frank (Trisha) Presnell; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial and celebration of D.W.’s life will be held on Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m. at his residence in Butler, Tenn., with Dylan McCellan officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Mountain Home Veterans Hospital.
