Irabelle Elizabeth Boone (88), our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 22, 2021. Irabelle was born on May 23, 1932, in Heaton, N.C., to Sherman Philo and Lela Elizabeth Pritchard.
Irabelle worked, for a time, as a telephone switchboard operator in Johnson City, Tenn. In 1952, she married her husband, John; they raised their six sons in Roan Mountain, Tenn. Irabelle later opened Irabelle’s Beauty Shop and served the Roan Mountain community as a beautician for many years. She was loved and known throughout the community as “granny.” She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Sherman and Lela; her sisters, Margaret, Wanda, and Nancy; her brothers, Jarvis, Arthur, Claude (Sonny), and Sherman Jr.; daughter-in-law, Martha; and Johnny Boone.
She will forever be cherished and remembered by her children: Jim, Mike (Missy), Larry, Steve (LaDonna), Herman, and Jeff (Karen); grandchildren, Johnathan (Kristy), Nicholaus (Jessica), Cody, Brittany (Jonathan), Brooke, Jay Allen (Kaylee), Katelyn, Monica, Dallas, Emrie (Dalton), Israel, Lucas, Alex, Josie, and Megan; and great-grandchildren, Kaelin, Oliver, Cade, and Tipton; and Jackie Boone. Irabelle will be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, in the First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain with the Rev. Geren Street and Rev. Richard Stout officiating. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, in the Boone Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her sons. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain. Family and friends will assemble at the church at 12:30 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to say a special thank you to Maxim Healthcare Services, Amedisys Hospice Care, Pastor Geren Street and First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain.
