All Veterans are invited to a special game on Monday evening April 19th at 6 pm at Elizabethton High School’s softball field as the Lady Cyclones play host to the Hampton Lady Bulldogs in the Folds of Honor contest.
The night will be filled with special memories as prior to the contest, all Veterans will be asked to go on the field with the players for the National Anthem.
Also, there will be special music provided by Mr. Loren Harris who sings at Dollywood as a member of the world-renowned Kingdom Heirs.
Elizabethton senior players will be reading a statement from Folds of Honor as well and of course, there will be a very good softball game to be played as well between the two local county schools.
The purpose of this special contest is to recognize in the folded flag a heavy price of freedom can be seen.
Founded in 2007 by F-16 fighter pilot Lt Col Dan Rooney, Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission. To provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.
Since its inception, 29,000 scholarships in $5,000 increments have been awarded to our most honorable military families across all 50 states and beyond.
Among the scholars served, 41% are minorities. The Carolinas is the largest recipient area in the country with 565 scholarships being awarded in SC/NC this academic year equaling over $2.7 million dollars. There is no doubt the FOH impact hits close to home.
The need for scholarships continues to rise. Despite the generosity of great Patriots across this country, nearly 1,500 qualified applicants went without awards this year due to a lack of funding.
This Memorial Day weekend, Folds of Honor and PGA Hope (Helping Our Veterans Everywhere) are coming together, forming the most holistic, impactful veteran program this country knows – Patriot Golf Days.
The ask is simple – get out, play a round of golf, make a donation and impact the lives of military families.
There will be no gate fee for the game thanks to The Jewelers Bench of Elizabethton who is sponsoring the game and also made a donation to Folds of Honor.
Donations will be accepted for the program at the gate.
