Unicoi Co. takes sweep in tennis action against EHS

The Elizabethton Cyclone tennis team went in search of a match win against Unicoi County but found the visiting Blue Devils a formidable foe as the Cyclones fell in boys and girls action by an identical 6-3 score.

In girls’ play, the Lady Cyclones picked up victories in singles play from Madelyn Outland who won convincingly over Unicoi County’s Karina Lopez by an 8-1 margin.

Also, Karie Merritt notched an 8-0 match win over Ashleigh Edwards in singles action.

On the doubles side, Katie Lee and Alley Taylor paired up for a highly contested 8-5 match win over Unicoi County’s Lopez and Edwards.

Elizabethton’s Susanna Digby, Mattie Davis, Maggie Rowland, and Chloe Force all found tough Lady Blue Devil opponents as the top four seeds each were dealt match defeats.

The boys were hoping to fare better in their matchups with the Blue Devils however the Cyclones discovered that the boys from Erwin had come with their A-game.

Elijah Smith continued to play strong tennis as he took an 8-3 victory over Unicoi’s Abhi Chando as the two one-seed’s squared off.

Kaden Street of Elizabethton and Ashton Abbott of Unicoi met in two-seed action and in a nailbiter, Street managed to fend off the Blue Devil with a 9-7 victory.

Smith and Street then teamed in doubles to give the Cyclones their third match win of the day over Chando and Abbott.

In other boy’s play, Carson Peters fell 7-9 to Sathvik Ranu, Blue Devil Zach Hopson took an 8-1 win over the Cyclones Alex Taylor and Nicholas Wilson fell to Unicoi County’s Daniel Schultz 8-6.

The Cyclones Caden Miller couldn’t overcome Javier Castellon who took their match 8-6.
