Mary Charlotte Whisnant, 91, of Hampton, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late James and Maggie Ellen Nave.
Charlotte was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church and loved to sing in her church choir. Charlotte enjoyed cooking, canning and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carmon Whisnant; a son, Terry Allen Whisnant; and two brothers, W.J. Nave and Dennis Nave.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three daughters, Carmen Dianne Nelson of Johnson City, Ellen Charlene Bateman of Hampton and Tammy Lynn Collins and husband Kevin of Elizabethton; two sisters, Betty Casida and Carol Davis, both of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Todd Nelson and wife Julie, Travis Nelson, Shane Bateman, Amber Hall and husband Jamie and Adam Collins and wife Emily; and one great-grandson, George Carmon Nelson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Mary Charlotte Whisnant will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel between the hours of 4 and 5 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May, 9, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Dwight Hobbs officiating. Active pallbearers will be Todd Nelson, Travis Nelson, Shane Bateman, Adam Collins, Woody Whisenhunt and Jeremy Whisenhunt. Those who will be attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38102-1905 or Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter, 135 Sycamore Shoals Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and to her caregiver, Linda Jenkins, and especially Emily Hanna and Jerry for all their loving care given to Mrs. Whisnant during her illness.
