For the last 10 years, the Elizabethton/Carter County Boys and Girls Club under the leadership of Rik Anderson has overseen the Jr. Cyclone football and cheerleading program but beginning this year the Jr. Cyclone Football will follow the guidelines of the Watauga Jr. Athletic League as they step out under their own umbrella.
In a statement from Elizabethton head football coach Shawn Witten, Witten said, “First we thank the Elizabethton/Carter County Boys & Girls Club, Rik Anderson, all the volunteer coaches, team moms, staff members, former athletes/cheerleaders, and everyone who has helped develop our Jr. Cyclone Football and Cheerleading program the last 10-plus years to what it is today.”
In moving forward, the mission of Junior Cyclone Football will be to create a positive and competitive environment where all athletes are taught football fundamentals, proper techniques, and Cyclone DNA.
