Sunday bicycle race will causes some changes for motorists

Elizabethton motorists should be aware of road closures and are asked to use extra caution watching for bicyclists in the downtown area  Sunday. 
The Ballad Health Criterium cycling race will occur Sunday throughout the day.  Closing of affected roadways will begin at 6:30 a.m. Races will begin at 8 a.m and are with roadways anticipated to be open by 6 p.m.
The racecourse will be on the following streets downtown:  Hattie Avenue, North and South Sycamore Street, East E Street, and North and South Riverside. 
Streets will be closed a block away from the race route to form an outer perimeter for safety of the racers and spectators.
Elizabethton Police officers at the closed intersections will assist race participants and spectators, as well as affected residents and those attending church services at First Christian Church on Hattie Avenue and Elizabethton Alliance Church on East Elk Avenue to parking as needed.
