The Empty Bottle String Band will perform Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Covered Bridge Park as part of the weekly concert series.
The Empty Bottle String Band specializes in playing toe-tapping, highly danceable traditional Appalachian music. They are known for their upbeat tunes and feel-good music. Their impressive stage presence is coupled with a delightfully self-effacing strength and confidence in their music. Their sound is inventive, while still staying close to the old-time string band tradition of the 1930s.
The band has become a festival favorite wherever they go and are one of East Tennessee’s most popular old-time groups.
The band promotes the close connection between old-time string band music and traditional dance. They frequently play for contra dances and square dances, and band members Tyler Hughes and Stephanie Jeter frequently demonstrate clogging and flatfooting during the shows.
Hughes plays banjo/autoharp; Jeter plays autoharp/bass and the band’s third member, Kristal Harman plays guitar.
