The Fourth of July celebration is always loaded with a ton of fireworks and as Elizabethton resumes their annual Independence Day Celebration, not only will the sky be filled with lovely burst of fireworks but the Covered Bridge Stage will also have its share of beauty as ladies from the age of two to 21-plus will be vying for the title of Miss Firecracker 2021.

Due to the pandemic last year, the pageant was put on the shelf with many other activities. However, this year the Miss Firecracker is just one of several events that have been planned for the Covered Bridge Park area with a bike parade, pet parade, the pageant, clogging, a patriotic ceremony, SPANK the 80’s band, and fireworks.

Beauty queens of all ages from across the region are invited to participate in the annual Miss Firecracker Pageant.

The pageant gets underway on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021, beginning at 5 pm at Elizabethton’s Covered Bridge stage.

There is an entry fee of $10 to enter the pageant.

For those wishing to participate, check-in will start at 4:15 pm and run for 30 minutes to 4:45 pm. Registration forms and fees can be turned in at this time.

There will be six princesses crowned during the pageant with one coming from the following age groups: Wee Miss Firecracker Birth – 2, Tiny Miss Firecracker 3-5, Little Miss Firecracker 6-10, Junior Miss Firecracker 11-15, Senior Miss Firecracker 16-20, and Elegant Miss Firecracker 21-plus.

Pageant Director Amy Simmons shared that contestants need to dress in their patriotic best which can be casual, formal, or even costume as anything goes with the intent of everyone having fun showing off their red, white, and blue.

According to Simmons, there have been close to 80 contestants that already called to obtain an entry form and get more information about the pageant.

“There should be a lot of entries this year because everyone is looking for ways to get things back to normal,” stated Simmons. “This should be a really awesome pageant full of contestants.”

Simmons further stated that there will be pageant assistants on hand to help young ladies across the stage.

The pageant is sponsored by Dancer’s Dreams Performing Arts Academy and the Elizabethton Park and Recreation Department.
