On a comfortable evening for a soccer scrimmage, Elizabethton and Chuckey Doak brought their competitive nature to the pitch as both teams are working diligently to prepare for the upcoming regular season which begins in just over a week.
And while it was just a scrimmage, both teams worked hard on the varsity side as for 60 minutes the two teams battled to put themselves into a position to score a goal.
The only score of the contest came at the 25:31 mark of the opening half when senior Maddie O’Quinn booted a ball just over the head and to the outside of the Chuckey Doak goalie from 20 yards to make it 1-nil Elizabethton.
Chuckey Doak had an opportunity to score on a couple of occasions when Lady Cyclone goalie Morgan Heaton extended a little too far from the goal allowing an open net for two shots.
Fortunately for the Lady Cyclones, both kicks went wide of the opening as Elizabethton held onto the lead at the half.
Elizabethton did a better job in the second half maintaining possession of the ball as the only time Chuckey Doak came close to a score was as the clock was ticking down to zero as Heaton saved the final shot taken in the varsity portion of the scrimmage.
The Lady Cyclones will host two scrimmages next week as the Lady Cyclones welcome Volunteer at 6 pm on Tuesday and follow that up with their final scrimmage on Thursday against West Greene at 6:30 pm at Citizens Bank Stadium.
Elizabethton opens the regular season on August 17th when they play host to Jefferson County at 6:30 pm.
