Hampton, Unaka take to links for prep golf match

Taking advantage of a beautiful afternoon for a round of golf, Hampton and Unaka took the links at the Elizabethton Golf Course for a four-way match with foes University High and Johnson County.

Hampton took top honors on the girls’ side of play while the Bulldogs finished in second place in boys’ play. Unaka’s 202 was good for fourth place in the match.

The Lady Bulldogs fired a team-low round of 98 with Rylie McClain leading the way with a 48 and teammate Macy Henry making up the team score by recording a nine-hole total of 50.

Gracie Burkett (52) and Brooklyn Adams (53) closed out the round for the Lady Bulldogs.

Host University High and Unaka completed their rounds knotted at 102.

Sadie Shoun’s 48 and Laikyn Stevens 54 made up the Lady Rangers two-man team score of 102. Grace Agans (56) and Sarah Blevins (59) followed the Lady Ranger leaders.

Quinn Scheller was the medalist on the day as the Lady Bucs finished the course with a round of 47. Teammate Chloe Ganger closed out the day for U-H by carding a 55.

The Bulldogs were 14 strokes off the first-place University High team that came into the clubhouse with a good day’s score of 166 in the four-man team scoring.

Co-medalists Garrett Gentry and Jaxson Williams led the charge for the Bucs by completing their identical rounds with a 39. Hank Berning and John Carter also matched each other as each Buc completed their day with equal 44’s.

Joseph Kent and Trey Meredith carded out with 54’s for U-H.

Avery Hill led the Bulldogs as Hill was only one stroke out of medalist consideration with a 40. Jonah Gable and Caleb Royston came in with a nine-round total of 46 each while RJ Tolley logged a 48.

Jude Hickman (53) was the final Bulldog golfer competing on the afternoon.

The Rangers saw Gavin Seigfried leading all Unaka linksters with a 47. Brayden Powell completed his round with a 48 followed by Mason Wilson’s 49.

Gavin Shoun’s 58 completed the team scoring for the Rangers.

Casey Wiggins and Sam Lewis each logged a 63 apiece to finalize Unaka’s day.

Dakota Holt (41), Graham Reece (45), Peyton Pavusek (49), and Grayson Holt (53) were responsible for Johnson County’s 188 which secured third place for the Mountain City team.
