Charlotte Geneva Calloway Crumley, 83, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at her daughter’s residence. Charlotte was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Frank Russell Calloway and Allie Edith Bowers Calloway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Herman Rhea Crumley; two sisters, Gladys Peeks and Carrie Carley; and two brothers, Junior Calloway and Paul Calloway.
Charlotte was a member of Doe River Baptist Church, where she served as the organist. She was the matriarch and rock of the family and was a wonderful homemaker who loved to keep house. Her home was always spotless! Charlotte was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and she loved music and playing instruments, talking and socializing with her family and friends. She also enjoyed making no bake cookies for her family and special friends and always had a smile on her face, she literally never met a stranger.
Charlotte is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Marcella Mullins of Elizabethton, Betty and Tim Mason of Knoxville and Misty Crowe of Elizabethton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery Lynn Crumley and wife Michelle of Butler; and special grandchildren, Madison and Mariah Crowe of Elizabethton; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one special sister, Ina Mae Stanbery Campbell of Elizabethton.
A service to celebrate and honor the life of Charlotte Geneva Crumley will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 19, in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Reverend Daniel Fink officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joey Cole and Morgan Arrowood. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Family and friends may also visit the home of her daughter, Marcella Mullins, 100 Daytona Place, Apt. 1, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 20, in the Wilson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charlotte’s grandchildren. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
