Cyclone boys, girls finish at the top in three-way match

Elizabethton hosted a three-way golf match with Hampton and Tennessee High on Tuesday at Elizabethton Golf Course with the Cyclone boys winning by four strokes over Tennessee High and Hampton by 14 strokes.

Co-medalists Caleb Tipton and Luke Campbell paced the Cyclones by finishing the nine-hole match with identical 37’s. The Cyclones also got a 40 from senior Carson Peters and Alex Gouge carded a 42 to make up the 156 tally.

Chase Buck (44), Jacob Williams (47), Dalton Sharp (49), and Austin Burchfield (52) also were on the links for the Cyclones in the match.

Tennessee High’s second-place finish came as a result of Carter Myers 38, a 39 from Luke Jones, Alex Jones’ 41, and a 42 by Paxton Odom.

Other Viking golfers who participated included Tripp Lively (44), Chandler Myers (44), and Cooper Terry (49).

The Bulldogs Avery Hill led the round for his team firing a 42. Caleb Royston and R.J. Tolley finished with a 45 and 46 respectively. Jude Hickman and Jonah Gable finished the day for Hampton by carding identical 47’s.

In girls’ play, the Lady Cyclones and Lady Vikings matched each other as the final scores were posted with identical 90’s to share the team title on the afternoon.

The Lady Vikings Madeline Simcox shot a blistering 34 to finish as the medalist while teammate Emily Mann was 22 strokes off Simcox with a 56.

Elizabethton’s Gabby Miller carded a 43 while teammate Hannah McDonnell finished with a 47 to help make up the Lady Cyclones team score for the match.

Ashlynn Guy also hit the course for the Lady Cyclones finishing her round with a 52.

Hampton was paced by Macy Henry who recorded a 51 with teammate Rylie McClain coming into the clubhouse with a round of 52. Brooklyn Adams closed out the play for the Lady Bulldogs finishing with a 59.
