Ralph Slagle, 91, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2021, from Franklin Woods Community Hospital. Ralph was born in Jefferson County, Ala., to the late Everette Newton Slagle and Levis Daniel Slagle on March 5, 1930. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Slagle, and a great-grandson, Perry Pearson.
Ralph was a member of Heartland Fellowship Church. He retired from EJ&E Railway in 1992 after 40 years. Ralph enjoyed working in his yard and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and church family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Pastor Marvin Slagle and wife Sara of Johnson City, Tenn.; his daughter, Deborah Szymanski and husband Joseph of Bolingbrook, Ill.; his grandchildren, Rachel Pearson and husband Craig of Arizona, Kevin Slagle and wife Kim of Indiana, Angela Moore and husband William of Michigan, and Nichole Heck and husband Jonathan of Bean Station, Tenn.; his great-grandchildren, Rayanna Pearson, Jonas Pearson, Riley Slagle, Peyton Heck, Justin Heck and William Heck; and his special caregivers, Kathy Grant, Steve Grant, Tammy Hensley, Shawna Odom and husband Mike, Nancy Bennett and Geraldine Roark.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Amedisys Hospice and Franklin Woods Community Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this difficult time.
A service to celebrate the life of Ralph Slagle will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, at Heartland Fellowship Church, Elizabethton, with Pastor Marvin Slagle officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church. The family will receive friends between the hours of 6 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Those wishing to view the service via live stream may do so by visiting the Heartland Fellowship Church Facebook page and following the link. Due to the rising concern of COVID-19, the family respectfully asks that all those in attendance practice social distancing and wear a mask. The graveside service and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 26, at Washington County Memory Gardens, Johnson City. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Slagle, Joe Szymanski, Jonathan Heck, Kelsey Ramey, Craig Pearson and Mike Odom. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Carter, Allen Johnson, Lester Bennett, Dennis Hensley, Anthony Ford, Jearld Oliver and Joe Stout. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Heartland Fellowship Church at noon on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Heartland Fellowship Church, 211 Heartland Way, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
