Cyclone golfers finish second in prep golf play

On a hot afternoon for golf, three Northeast Tennessee prep golf teams hooked up for a match at the Elizabethton Golf Course as both the Elizabethton boys and girls came away with second-place finishes in their respective groups.
The Cyclone boys collected their second-place finish as they only finished four strokes behind Greeneville as the Greene Devils finished with a nine-hole round of 148 while the Cyclones checked in with a 152.
Greeneville had a three-way tie for medalists as Gavin Sells, Alex Broyles, and Dougie Fezell all ended their day with identical 35’s. William Crews and Cade Nelson each added a 43 to add to the team total.
Elizabethton meanwhile was paced by Caleb Tipton and Carson Peters as both Cyclones came into the clubhouse with identical 37’s. Chase Buck and Jacob Williams helped to make up the four-man team total by carding out with 39’s.
Luke Campbell (40), Alex Gouge (41), Austin Birchfield (44), and Clay Hopland (56) were other Cyclone players to take to the links.
Dobyns-Bennett finished out the boy’s action by scoring a team total of 172.
Sam Barbour led the charge with a 39 on the afternoon. John Helpinstine (42), Kai Benedick (45), and Evan Timbes (46) helped to form the Indians team total.
The Lady Cyclones finished tied for second with Greeneville as both teams closed out with a two-person team total of 93. Dobyns Bennett led the day on the course as the Lady Indians claimed top honors with an 81.
Ashlynn Guy led the Lady Cyclones with a 46 while teammate Gabby Miller ended the round with a 47. Greeneville’s Julia Brown led the Lady Greene Devils with a 45 with teammate Lindy Carter firing a 48.
D-B was led to the win by medalists McKenzie Hauk who finished with a low-round of 37. Samia Izallalen added a 44 to make up the team total of 81.
