The Cyclones (2-0 conference) fell behind early in the second half on a breakaway goal from Lady Knights captain Emma Honeycutt.

The Knights played the ball into the attacking end which split two TAD backline defenders and Honeycutt sped into the penalty area where she fired into the net past Cyclones goalkeeper Princess Russell for a 1-nil lead.

TAD dug deep and began to renew their aggressive attack and in the 43rd minute Isla Grindstaff scored the equalizer.

The Cyclones – now energized by the goal – put even more pressure on the Knights keeper Caydee Hogan and in the 50th minute, Camdyn Garland tallied the game-winner.

“Oh my God, I am stressed,” Lady Cyclones head coach Samantha Husbands said. “Izzy (Lewis) hit the post at least twice and any other game those could have gone in.

“I thought Princess came up big and made some pretty big saves and we had that one defensive mistake. I thought we stayed composed after we fell behind and we got better in the second half of looking for the pass and making better passes.”

Overall, TAD held an 11-4 shots on goal advantage with eighth-grader Isabella ‘Izzy’ Lewis having seven of them including hitting the far post on a corner kick that nearly scored and she had a high rising blast deflect off the crossbar.

“We did a good job possessing the ball,” Husbands said. “And taking the shots. Their goalkeeper was good, she made some tough saves. They weren’t able to combine passes and we had that one mistake, but I felt we played well.”
