The City of Elizabethton has seen many fitness venues open up as of recent years, and on Wednesday there was another gym to be added to the list. Planet Fitness, one of the nation’s largest fitness centers, held a grand opening celebration for their brand new Elizabethton location, and it was an event filled with joy and excitement.

Beginning at 1 p.m., a ribbon cutting ceremony was held inside the gym, an event attended by many people of Elizabethton and Carter County such as Elizabethton City Mayor Curt Alexander, Carter County Mayor Patty Woodby, as well as Executive Director of the Elizabethton/Carter County Boys and Girls Club Shelly Parham and members of her team.

Chris Skipp, the Tennessee VP of Operations for Planet Fitness, was also in attendance, and was excited to be opening a new location in the community of Elizabethton, saying, “One thing that we have felt since we have been here in the community of Elizabethton is that everyone here is extremely welcoming. We are so glad to be here and to have a location in a place like this.”

Before the ribbon was cut on Wednesday, Skipp also made a very special contribution to the community, as he presented Parham and the Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton with a check in the amount of $1,000 to help with any needs the organization may have.

As the ribbon was cut in the lobby of the newly opened Planet Fitness, there were smiles all around as everyone in attendance was overjoyed with this new establishment in the City of Elizabethton.

Later on in the day, from 5 until 8 p.m., the fun would continue on the day of the grand opening for the fitness center, as Planet Fitness hosted a block party for anyone in the community to enjoy.

The event consisted of vendors, food trucks, giveaways, a raffle for a chance to win a Yeti cooler, as well as an even bigger raffle with the chance to win two tickets to the University of Tennessee’s home football game against South Alabama.

Those interested in signing up for a membership to Planet Fitness in Elizabethton can receive a special offer, one that is a $1 down payment. But make sure to hurry, as this offer expires on September 16.
