Jerry Thomas Clawson, 74, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 1, 2021, while in his home.
He was born on September 8, 1947, in Avery County, N.C., to the late Russell V. Clawson Sr. and Myrtle N. Ward Clawson.
Jerry gave his life to Christ as a young man and spent the rest of his life sharing the gospel to bring others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He preached his last sermon on the 23rd Psalm from his front porch two weeks before he passed. Jerry served as pastor of Walking by Faith Community Church until his last breath.
Jerry’s vocation was building houses and making improvements to peoples’ homes. He loved “tinkering” with cars and working with his hands.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell V. Clawson Sr.; his mother, Myrtle N. Ward Clawson; his brother, Russell V. Clawson Jr.; and his sister, Wanda C. (Tina) Clawson.
Left to cherish fond memories are his wife of 35 years, Karin L. Clawson; daughter, Mechelle L. Carter and husband Jeff of Limestone, and daughter, Laura A. Byrd and husband Julian of Grand Island, Fla.; granddaughter, Chelsea I. Ricker and husband Brennan of Johnson City; granddaughter, Linsey I. Way and husband Dakota of Rogersville; grandson, Miles R. Byrd of Shelby, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Mayland Ricker and Emmett Way; sister, Judy Carpenter and husband Charles of Newland, N.C.; sister, Janice Horney of Banner Elk, N.C.; brother in-law, Terry W. Lambert and wife Gwynne of Lafayette, La.; brother in-law, Larry Lambert of Lafayette, La.; a nephew that was loved like a son, Stacy Clawson; and a host of family members.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 7, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ray Davis officiating. Music will be provided by the Sounds of Victory. Interment will be at the Clawson Cemetery, Poga, Tenn. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and the staff of Amedisys Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Clawson to the Walking By Faith Community Church, 135 Rainbow Circle, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
