HAMPTON- This Friday night marks yet another finish to the high school football season across East Tennessee. Of course, there’s still postseason play in line for many in the area, but for others, it’s lights on Friday.

One team with bigger aspirations than just this week’s game is the Hampton Bulldogs who are hoping to put an exclamation mark on their season.

It’s been a season sort of built around two games for the Bulldogs, both of those games were against the South Greene Rebels who Hampton lost to earlier in the season. The rest of their games that weren’t affected by COVID were more or less blowouts. This puts the Bulldogs in a strange place.

Though they’ve already locked in the second spot in the region, Friday’s game could mean a lot for the Bulldogs as no one wants to lose their momentum just before the playoffs.

The Bulldogs enter Friday’s game against Daniel Boone at 7-1 overall and ranked number eight in the state at the 2-A level. The Trailblazers come in at 4-6 but also have the third hardest schedule in the whole state of Tennessee.

The opportunity to play against a 5-A opponent and a good one at that could serve as a good barometer for Hampton. Obviously, coach Lunsford and company will be focused on the game at hand, but it will be interesting to see if anyone has eyes on the postseason.

The well-balanced attack the Bulldogs have put on display this season will be an interesting match against a stifling Boone defense with a ton of size.

Coming off a victory against their arch-rivals, David Crockett 28-14, it will be interesting to see how Hampton can present a challenge both on the ground or even through the air.

The staunch defense of the Bulldogs will also be put on notice as they’ll be facing what’s probably the biggest offensive line they’ve been up against this season. The key for the Hampton D will be slowing down the explosive running the Trailblazers have on the outside.

Friday’s game is at Daniel Boone with kickoff slated to be at 7 pm.
