Contributed — Deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatality that occurred during a structure fire Sunday night on Dayton Hayes Circle near Elizabethton.

The West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department and deputies were called to a report of a fire around 9:30 p.m. Mary Lou Livingston, 83, was found unresponsive in her home and was transported to Sycamore Shoals Hospital, but attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
