The public is invited to the annual lighting of the Frasier Fir Christmas Tree in Historic Downtown on Nov. 20.

‘We wanted to make it an event that showcases downtown as well as brings the community together, and it is such a special thing for us because most of us grew up in the community,” said Andrew McKeehan, president of sponsoring Carter County Bank.

“The tree lighting is a signature event for downtown, and with us having a branch downtown and one beside of Food City it only makes sense for us to take part in the event,” he added.

The event starts at 5 p.m. “There will be musical entertainment to enjoy until the main event,” McKeehan said. “We are also going to have an honorary person to flip the switch on the tree.

“After the event is over, we are going to work with Parks and Recreation and everyone can go and take part in the Candy Cane Quest. That is one of the reasons we moved the event to a Saturday from the traditional day of Tuesday, so that we can have more people attend and spend time downtown afterwards.”
