On Tuesday, employees of the Edward Jones offices of Jonathan Street and Curt Alexander donated hundreds of supplies for the Loaves and Fishes Food Ministry, a non-profit organization in Elizabethton.

The food ministry was provided with various items such as cooking spray, plates, aluminum foil and other cooking supplies to help with the volume of people who receive free meals each night.

“This year, instead of doing something like a Christmas party we decided to switch things up and do a ‘spirit of caring,’ where each office chose a charity to donate to,” said Kathy Thomason.

“(We sent) out emails and letters to our clients telling them of the need and asking them to make contributions. We did not accept monetary donations, but rather physical items and our clients were very generous in their giving. We were able to provide two truckloads worth of goods for the food ministry,” said Thomason.

“I compiled a list of items that the food ministry uses on a daily basis and provided that to our clients,” said Thomason. “That way if there was any money that was contributed, it wouldn’t have to be used for items used on a daily basis, but rather for things we could use for a fill-in for things we may not have.”

In a season of getting, this donation by these offices of Edward Jones shows that holiday time in the area is much more than that.

“Us being able to donate these items shows that our clients and the community of Elizabethton care. A lot of them do not even know about this place and the need that the community has, and they could not believe that Loaves and Fishes feed over 2,000 people a month. Our clients think that it is a wonderful thing, and I think we will have more people donating in the future,” said Patti Whitson.
