CONTRIBUTED — The Carter County Planning & Zoning Office has moved to a new location at 300 N. Main Street in Elizabethton.

Earlier this year, the Carter County Commission approved the purchase of the property at 300 N. Main St., in order to provide additional space for county offices. The Commission later decided to relocate the Planning & Zoning Office to the new property due to several issues with the existing office space at 824 E. Second St., including insufficient space for the department’s needs and structural issues with the building itself.

“The new office gives our Planning & Zoning staff the space they need to do their work,” said Mayor Patty Woodby. “In their new location, they have the ability to separate and spread out, which has become vitally important as we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The new location also improves ease of access for individuals with disabilities, Woodby added.
